Indaba Trading Company

Meaningful Goods. Made by Hand. Shared with Heart.

Born from a leap of courage and a deep love for beautiful, meaningful living, Indaba Trading Company was founded by Irene, a South African immigrant who arrived on Vancouver Island with two young children and a dream. With no support network but a strong sense of purpose, she launched Indaba with the belief that life is richer when we surround ourselves with things that bring comfort, joy, and beauty.

Today, Indaba is a proudly women-owned and operated business, led by Irene and her daughter Alison. Together, they travel the world to thoughtfully source their homeware collections—placing a strong emphasis on ethical partnerships and traditional craftsmanship.

The name Indaba—a Zulu word meaning “a gathering of people”—reflects their commitment to connection: with you, their customers; with the artisans who handcraft each piece; and with the global community of small businesses they proudly support.

Inspired by India’s rich textile legacy, global artisan traditions, and the stories behind every handcrafted item, Indaba invites you to gather beauty, meaning, and a sense of home—wherever you are.
